Plumbing & HVAC Services

Everything we handle, and what to expect when we do

Plumbing is the heart of what we do, and we do a great deal of heating and cooling work alongside it. Below is a plain language rundown of each service: what it covers, why people usually call, and how we approach it. If what you're dealing with isn't listed, call anyway; odds are it's something we see regularly.

Our Primary Trade

Plumbing Services

Plumbing is the core of BnH. It runs from the small stuff (a dripping fixture, a slow drain, a shutoff that won't turn) through water heaters, pipe repairs, fixture work and full installation for remodels and additions. Water damage gets expensive quickly, so we'd rather look at something early than after the ceiling comes down. Whatever the size of the job, the process is the same: find the actual cause, explain it plainly, and do the repair so it holds.

Plumbing Repairs

The everyday problems that stop a household in its tracks: a fixture that won't stop running, a valve that won't shut, a connection that's weeping. We find the cause and fix it properly.

Common reasons people call

  • Dripping, running or non-functioning fixtures
  • A shutoff valve that's seized or leaking
  • Low pressure at one fixture or throughout the house
  • A previous repair that didn't hold

What to expect from BnH

A real diagnosis, a clear explanation of the fix, and work that's finished cleanly with the area left the way we found it.

Leak Repair

Leaks rarely stay small. We track down where the water is actually coming from, which isn't always where it shows up, and repair it before it costs you drywall and flooring.

Common reasons people call

  • A stain on a ceiling or wall that keeps growing
  • Dampness under a sink, behind a toilet or near the water heater
  • A water bill that jumped without an explanation
  • The sound of running water when nothing is on

What to expect from BnH

Careful investigation before we open anything up, a straightforward repair, and honest guidance if the affected area needs more than plumbing work.

Drain Problems

Slow drains and recurring backups usually have a cause worth finding. We clear the blockage and talk with you about why it happened.

Common reasons people call

  • One slow drain, or several at the same time
  • Gurgling sounds or odors from drains
  • A tub or shower that backs up
  • Clogs that return every few months

What to expect from BnH

Clearing the line with the right tool for the situation, protecting the surrounding area while we work, and practical advice on preventing a repeat.

Water Heaters

Hot water is one of those things nobody thinks about until it's gone. We repair, replace and install water heaters, and we'll tell you honestly whether yours is worth saving.

Common reasons people call

  • No hot water, or hot water that runs out fast
  • Rust-colored water, sediment noise or a leaking tank
  • An aging unit you'd rather replace on your schedule
  • You're changing tank size or unit type

What to expect from BnH

A look at the unit and how it's connected, clear options with costs, a careful changeout, and the old unit removed when we go.

Fixtures

Faucets, sinks, toilets, shower valves, laundry connections and disposals, supplied and installed, or installed if you've already picked out what you want.

Common reasons people call

  • A fixture that's worn out or past repairing
  • A kitchen or bath refresh
  • Accessibility or convenience upgrades
  • A new fixture that was installed poorly

What to expect from BnH

Solid connections, proper support and sealing, a test under real use, and no mess left in the cabinet or on the floor.

Pipe Repairs

Supply and drain lines that are corroded, damaged, poorly supported or leaking at joints. We repair what's failing and explain what we're seeing in the rest of the run.

Common reasons people call

  • A pinhole leak or damaged section of pipe
  • Noisy, banging or rattling pipes
  • Older piping you're concerned about
  • Freeze damage

What to expect from BnH

Repairs made with appropriate materials and methods for your piping, an honest picture of the condition of the rest of the line, and a clean work area.

Plumbing Installation

New lines, rough-in for remodels, relocated fixtures, appliance connections and additions. Planned before it's built, so it works and can be serviced later.

Common reasons people call

  • A bathroom or kitchen remodel
  • Adding a laundry, utility sink or outdoor spigot
  • Moving a fixture to a better location
  • Connecting a new appliance properly

What to expect from BnH

A clear scope up front, coordination around the rest of your project, workmanship that's neat where it shows and where it doesn't, and a full test before we call it done.

General Plumbing Service

The mixed list most homeowners keep on the fridge. Bring us the whole list, it's usually more practical to handle several small items in one visit.

Common reasons people call

  • Several small issues you've been putting off
  • A problem you can't quite describe yet
  • A new-to-you home you'd like looked over
  • You'd rather have one company handle it all

What to expect from BnH

We'll go through the list with you, tell you what's quick and what isn't, and prioritize what actually matters.

Preventative Plumbing

Checking the things that quietly fail, supply lines, shutoffs, connections and the water heater, so you're not finding out about them at the worst moment.

Common reasons people call

  • Aging supply lines to washers, dishwashers or toilets
  • Shutoff valves that have never been exercised
  • A water heater with some years on it
  • You're leaving the house empty for a while

What to expect from BnH

A walkthrough of the vulnerable points in your plumbing, a short list of what's worth addressing now, and no pressure on the rest.

Not sure which category you're in?

Plenty of problems don't announce themselves clearly. A stain on the ceiling could be plumbing or it could be a condensate drain on the HVAC side. Low water pressure could be one fixture or the whole house. Describe what you're seeing and we'll help you sort out what it probably is before anyone drives out.

The Other Half of Our Week

We also do a substantial amount of heating and cooling work, same crew, same tools, same standard of workmanship.

A Major Part of What We Do

HVAC Services

Heating and cooling work covers a lot of ground: emergencies where nothing is running, slow declines in performance, planned replacements and conversions, and the seasonal attention that keeps systems out of trouble. We handle all of it, and we start every visit the same way: by finding out what's actually happening before we touch a part.

Air Conditioning

Cooling that keeps up with the hottest stretch of summer. We service, repair and replace central air systems, and we start by figuring out what's actually wrong instead of guessing.

Common reasons people call

  • The air coming from the vents isn't cold anymore
  • The system runs constantly but the house never catches up
  • Short cycling, tripped breakers, or a unit that won't start
  • Water around the indoor unit or ice on the lines

What to expect from BnH

We check airflow, refrigerant behavior, electrical components and drainage, then explain what we found in plain language along with your options.

Heating

Furnaces, air handlers and heat pumps that need to be dependable when the temperature drops. We handle routine attention and the calls that come when heat stops.

Common reasons people call

  • No heat, or heat that cuts out after a few minutes
  • Cold rooms while others stay comfortable
  • New noises, odors, or a rising heating bill
  • A system that's aging and you'd like an honest opinion on

What to expect from BnH

A careful inspection of the heat source, controls and airflow, a clear explanation of what's happening, and a repair or replacement recommendation that makes sense for your home.

HVAC Repair

Diagnosis first, parts second. Most comfort problems come down to a specific component or setting, and we'd rather find it than sell you something you don't need.

Common reasons people call

  • The system stopped working entirely
  • Performance has slowly gotten worse
  • A thermostat or control problem you can't pin down
  • Someone else looked at it and you'd like a second opinion

What to expect from BnH

We test before we conclude, tell you what the repair involves and what it costs, and let you decide before we start.

HVAC Installation

New equipment only performs as well as the installation behind it. We take sizing, ductwork, drainage and airflow seriously so the system runs the way it's supposed to.

Common reasons people call

  • Adding cooling or heating to an addition or finished space
  • Building or remodeling and starting fresh
  • Replacing equipment that was never the right fit
  • You want the job done neatly and correctly the first time

What to expect from BnH

A walkthrough of your home, a clear scope of work, careful protection of floors and finishes during the install, and a working system we test with you before we leave.

HVAC Replacement

When repair costs start stacking up, replacement becomes the smarter move. We'll tell you honestly which side of that line your system is on.

Common reasons people call

  • Repeated repairs on aging equipment
  • Comfort and efficiency that keep slipping
  • A system at the end of its usable life
  • You'd like to plan the replacement instead of being surprised by it

What to expect from BnH

A straightforward comparison of repairing versus replacing, options at more than one price point, and a clean changeout with the old equipment hauled away.

HVAC Maintenance

Regular attention keeps small issues from turning into no heat and no cooling calls, and it keeps systems running closer to how they were designed to run.

Common reasons people call

  • You'd like the system checked before the season changes
  • Filters, coils and drains haven't been looked at in a while
  • You just bought the home and don't know the system's history
  • You want to catch problems while they're still small

What to expect from BnH

A methodical check of the components that fail most often, cleaning where it matters, and notes on anything worth watching, with no pressure attached.

Heat Pumps

Heat pumps heat and cool from one system, which means the details matter in both seasons. We service, repair and install them with that in mind.

Common reasons people call

  • The system heats but no longer cools well, or the reverse
  • Frequent defrost cycles or ice buildup outdoors
  • Backup heat running more than it should
  • You're considering a heat pump and want a practical assessment

What to expect from BnH

Testing in the mode that's actually giving you trouble, an explanation of how your system is set up, and recommendations that account for how you use your home.

Mini Splits & Ductless Systems

Ductless systems are a practical answer for additions, garages, bonus rooms and older homes without ductwork. Placement and line routing make the difference.

Common reasons people call

  • A room that's always too hot or too cold
  • A finished space with no ducts running to it
  • You want independent control in one part of the house
  • An existing mini split that isn't performing

What to expect from BnH

A conversation about where the indoor head and outdoor unit should go, tidy line-set routing, and a system that's set up for the room it serves.

General HVAC Troubleshooting

Some comfort complaints don't fit neatly into a category, uneven temperatures, humidity, airflow, noise, or a system nobody has been able to explain.

Common reasons people call

  • Rooms that never match the thermostat
  • Humidity that feels off year-round
  • Odd noises, smells or airflow patterns
  • Recurring problems that keep coming back after repairs

What to expect from BnH

We take the time to look at the whole system, equipment, ductwork, controls and the house itself, instead of treating the symptom.

Mass Save® Assistance

See if Mass Save may help with your project

Massachusetts homeowners often have access to rebates, incentives, financing or energy assessments through Mass Save, but only for certain qualifying improvements, and only when the home, equipment and utility provider fit the program requirements. We're happy to walk through where your project might fit and help with the paperwork side of it.

  • Water heating upgrades

Certain water heating improvements, such as heat pump water heaters, currently carry Mass Save incentives when installed by an eligible installer and when the home and equipment meet program requirements. Not every water heater replacement qualifies, so it's worth asking before you buy.

  • Heating & cooling improvements

Qualifying heating and cooling projects, including some air source heat pump installations, may be eligible for Mass Save incentives. Requirements vary by equipment, home and utility territory, and program terms change over time.

  • Income qualified households

Income qualified Massachusetts households may have access to enhanced incentives and, through certain Mass Save programs, no cost energy efficiency improvements. Eligibility is determined by the program and not by us, but we can point you to the right place to check.

Mass Save is an independent Massachusetts program and BnH does not control eligibility, approvals or incentive amounts. Nothing here is a guarantee that your project will qualify or that any specific rebate is available. We'll tell you honestly what we know and where to verify the current program terms.
