Mass Save® Assistance
Mass Save and your plumbing or HVAC project
Mass Save is a Massachusetts energy efficiency initiative run by the state's utilities and energy providers. It can help with certain qualifying improvements, and it does not apply to every job. Here is a straight explanation of how we can help, and what we cannot promise.
Where it may apply
Projects Mass Save is most often relevant to
Massachusetts homeowners often have access to rebates, incentives, financing or energy assessments through Mass Save, but only for certain qualifying improvements, and only when the home, equipment and utility provider fit the program requirements. We're happy to walk through where your project might fit and help with the paperwork side of it.
Water heating upgrades
Certain water heating improvements, such as heat pump water heaters, currently carry Mass Save incentives when installed by an eligible installer and when the home and equipment meet program requirements. Not every water heater replacement qualifies, so it's worth asking before you buy.
Heating & cooling improvements
Qualifying heating and cooling projects, including some air source heat pump installations, may be eligible for Mass Save incentives. Requirements vary by equipment, home and utility territory, and program terms change over time.
Income qualified households
Income qualified Massachusetts households may have access to enhanced incentives and, through certain Mass Save programs, no cost energy efficiency improvements. Eligibility is determined by the program and not by us, but we can point you to the right place to check.
Help with the process
Programs, forms and requirements are genuinely confusing. We can explain what applies to the work you're considering, help gather the documentation the program asks for, and be straight with you when a project simply doesn't qualify.
How it works with BnH
What happens when you ask us about Mass Save
- Step 1
Tell us what you are considering
A water heater replacement, a heating or cooling project, or simply a system you know is on borrowed time. We start from the work itself rather than from a program brochure.
- Step 2
We look at the project honestly
Some upgrades fall inside Mass Save program categories and many ordinary repairs do not. We will tell you which side your job sits on rather than implying every invoice comes with a rebate.
- Step 3
We point you at the official requirements
Program terms, incentive levels and eligibility rules change, and they depend on your home, your equipment and your utility. The official Mass Save resources are the authority on that, so that is where we send you to confirm.
- Step 4
We help with the process
Where a project does look like a fit, we can explain what the program asks for and help gather the documentation, so the paperwork is not the reason a good upgrade stalls.

Common questions
- What is Mass Save?
- Mass Save is a Massachusetts energy efficiency initiative run by the state's utilities and energy providers. It offers things like rebates, incentives, financing options and home energy assessments for qualifying energy efficiency improvements.
- Does every plumbing or HVAC job qualify?
- No. Mass Save applies to specific eligible energy efficiency projects, not to every plumbing or heating and cooling job. A routine repair generally does not qualify, while certain equipment upgrades may.
- Can BnH guarantee I will get an incentive?
- No, and nobody honestly can. Eligibility and approval are decided by the program based on the property, the equipment, your utility and, for some programs, household income. We can explain the process and help with the paperwork, but we do not control the outcome.
- Which projects come up most often?
- Heat pump water heaters and qualifying air source heat pump heating and cooling projects are the two categories customers ask us about most. Requirements differ for each, so they are worth checking individually.
- Where do I check the current program terms?
- Go to the official Mass Save website. Because incentive levels and requirements change over time, we would rather send you to the source than quote figures on our own site that may be out of date.
Check the official program terms
Mass Save publishes its own current requirements, incentive levels and eligibility rules. Confirm your situation there before making a purchase decision.
Mass Save is an independent Massachusetts program and BnH does not control eligibility, approvals or incentive amounts. Nothing here is a guarantee that your project will qualify or that any specific rebate is available. We'll tell you honestly what we know and where to verify the current program terms.
