Water Heater Repair
A water heater rarely fails at a convenient moment. Most of the calls we take start the same way: someone stepped into a cold shower, or found water on the basement floor that was not there yesterday.
We repair gas, electric and heat pump water heaters. The first job is always finding out whether you are looking at a component that can be replaced, or a tank that has reached the end of its life. Those are very different conversations, and we would rather have the honest one.
When people usually call us
- No hot water at all, or hot water that runs out far too quickly
- Water pooling around the base of the tank
- Rumbling, popping or banging sounds while the unit heats
- A pilot or burner that will not stay lit
- Rusty or discolored hot water at the taps
- A relief valve that keeps discharging
How BnH approaches the job
Diagnose before quoting
We test the parts that actually fail: thermostats, heating elements, gas valves, thermocouples, anode rods, relief valves and the venting. Guessing at a water heater gets expensive quickly, so we do not.
Repair or replace, explained plainly
If a repair makes sense we tell you what it involves. If the tank itself is corroded or the unit is well past its service life, we say so and walk you through replacement rather than selling you a repair that buys a few months.
Left safe and tidy
Connections checked, venting confirmed, the area cleaned up and the old parts taken away with us.
Questions we get asked
Water Heater Repair: common questions
- Is it worth repairing an older water heater?
- It depends on what failed. Thermostats, elements, valves and thermocouples are routine repairs. A tank that is leaking from the body is not repairable, and at that point replacement is the only honest recommendation.
- Do you work on tankless and heat pump water heaters?
- Yes. We service conventional gas and electric tanks, tankless units and heat pump water heaters. Heat pump water heaters are also the category where Mass Save incentives most often come up, so it is worth asking before you commit to a replacement.
- How far will you travel for a water heater call?
- We dispatch from Bellingham and take work throughout Massachusetts. Tell us where you are and we will be straight with you about scheduling.
