What this covers
Drain Cleaning
A drain that backs up once is an annoyance. A drain that backs up every few weeks is telling you something, and clearing it without finding out why simply resets the clock.
We clear kitchen, bath, laundry and main line drains, then look at what caused the blockage so you are not calling about the same drain next season.
What you might be seeing
- Water standing in a sink, tub or shower long after it should have gone
- Gurgling from a nearby fixture when another one drains
- More than one fixture backing up at the same time, which usually points further down the line
- A drain that clears for a week or two and then blocks again
- Smells coming back up through a floor drain or a fixture
How BnH approaches the job
Clear the blockage
We use the method that suits the line rather than forcing one tool at everything, and we protect the fixture and the surrounding area while we work.
Work out why it happened
Grease, roots, a bellied line, a venting problem or something that simply should not have gone down there all look similar from the top. Knowing which one you have changes what we recommend next.
Tell you what to expect
If the line needs more than a cleaning, we explain what the repair would involve. If it just needed clearing, we say that too.
Questions we get asked
Drain Cleaning: common questions
- Why does the same drain keep clogging?
- Repeat clogs usually mean the line itself has an issue, such as root intrusion, a sag holding water, or a partial obstruction that keeps catching debris. Clearing it treats the symptom, so we look for the cause.
- Do you handle main line and sewer drain problems?
- Yes. When several fixtures back up at once, the problem is usually past the individual fixture, and that is the situation we look at first.
- Are chemical drain cleaners a bad idea?
- They often make things worse, especially on older pipe and on full blockages where the product simply sits in the line. If you have already used one, tell us so we can work safely.
